Interlude

Video, Performance, Photography
This work investigates the interplay among memory, imagination, and reality. “Interlude” invites introspection, encouraging viewers to reflect upon the nature of their memories and the transformative potential of their imaginations, challenging to consider the fluidity of our perceptions and how our past experiences shape our present realities.
Through evocative visuals, this creates a sense of disorientation, inviting the audience to question their memories’ reliability and personal narratives’ fluidity. The camera focuses closely on the hand and the meat, a hand playfully interacting with a piece of chicken breast, creating a dynamic and fragmented visual experience. The color similarity between the hand and the meat helps establish a visual connection, blurring the boundaries between humans and objects. Flapping and teasing the meat metaphorically represents the interplay between disgust and desire and the tantalizing dance between memory and imagination. By juxtaposing the human hand, a symbol of consciousness and agency, with the piece of chicken breast, a product of the food industry and consumer culture, the artwork explores the complex and contradictory nature of our relationship with food and the animalistic aspects of human existence. Engaging with a prepared food commodity, “Interlude” questions the dichotomy between the natural and the artificial, the living and the lifeless. It invites viewers to confront their desires, instincts, and the ethical implications of our consumption choices. The jump cuts and fragmented visuals intensify the experience, evoking a sense of unease and dissonance. This technique reflects the conflicted and fragmented nature of our relationship with our surroundings and the complexities inherent in navigating the realms of desire and disgust. Employing a potent symbol to explore the multifaceted aspects of human existence, including our primal instincts, ethical considerations, and the tension between desire and repulsion.
